But according to all the keyword research tools, each keyword only gets 0-50 monthly searches. And yet, when I look at the individual long-tail keywords that drive traffic, each one leads to 100+ monthly clicks, month after month.
Why the disparity in numbers? Keyword research data is an estimate, not a perfect precise number. Granted, for many industries, 100+ monthly clicks per keyword isn't much, but this is an incredibly niche topic related to an uncommon medical condition. And, this blog post has the highest conversion rate for my email list, because the content is so valuable to my small target audience.
The lesson here is to focus on your target audience. Create content that addresses their specific needs, even if the search volume is low for the relevant keywords.
Prioritize Good Titles Over Keywords
Never put the importance of keywords above a good title. Remember, your distribution method matters. If you will share your article on social media or via email, the title matters much more than SEO.
By all means, optimize for search engines. Use keywords in your body copy, H2s, and in the H1 if appropriate. But never force it.
Unless you're in a tiny category and ranking 1st on Google is going to be possible in a handful of articles, powerful copywriting will make you more memorable.
Add an SEO-Boosting FAQ Page
One of my favorite easy-to-implement SEO copywriting tips is to add an FAQ page to your site. When users type inside the Google search bar, they are looking for answers to their questions. You can add a page or section to your website to answer those questions. And you'll get an SEO boost with those extra keyword mentions.
Here’s how to do it. Research all the questions that are asked in Google. There are many resources to learn what these are. Create your FAQ page with those questions and answers. Provide valuable, appropriate, and accurate answers to those common questions. Be sure to add relevant keywords and long-tail keywords to your questions and answers. And who knows? A snippet of your FAQs could become the quoted result at the top of Google’s first page.
Conduct Exploratory Client Meetings
When building a robust SEO-focused content strategy, I hold an exploratory meeting with my client where I'll ask questions to dive deeper into what their business is and what content will best support their website strategy. During that meeting, I take constant notes, writing words that pop up often in conversation, and then expand my keyword research based on those findings.

Follow character count recommendations—60 characters for titles and 160 characters for descriptions—to ensure that Google doesn’t truncate your content.
For the title, be sure to include your primary keyword close to the front. Be as descriptive as possible and answer the question “What is this page about?” Meta descriptions are not thought to be a direct ranking factor, so use them to entice a user to click. Create descriptions that focus on the benefits of the page and the value to the reader.
Optimize for Featured Snippets
For SEO copywriting, there's one go-to tip that many websites forget: analyze the search engine results pages (SERPs) and optimize for featured snippets. This concise, informative text at the top of the SERPs tells you exactly what kind of content Google values for your keywords. Optimizing for featured snippet offers two benefits:
- Increased visibility by occupying the top position in the SERPs, even above the organic search results.
- Establishing your website as an authority, fostering trust with users.
To optimize for featured snippets:
- Search your target keywords & identify the featured snippets that appear. Note their structure & format.
- Write well-structured content that addresses the user's needs & tailor your content to the preferred format. This includes using bullet points, tables, & numbered lists to make your content scannable.
- Use schema markup (FAQ or How-To, etc.) to provide signals to search engines about the structure & nature of your content.
Incorporate Keywords and Human Experiences
In SEO copywriting, it is more important than ever to use good keyword research and incorporate this into your writing.
With more people using AI tools to produce content for them, using well-researched keywords in your writing and adding more human experiences into the writing is something that text-automation tools can never replicate, so it will help your content stand out from the rest.

Add an author's brief description at the beginning of the article. Link it to an author page that clearly demonstrates the author's authority in the industry. The #1 thing to remember for good SEO copywriting is to deliver on the promise your headline makes. In a world where clickbait dominates, building trust with your audience (and with search engines) relies heavily upon delivering the content they came for.
That means original, relevant, on-topic content that proves valuable to the reader by answering their questions and solving their problems. That's the key to organic SEO. Focus on this and EVERYTHING else will fall in line.
